Big Picture – A Deep Dive Examination of Covata Ltd
Covata Ltd Snapshot
Covata Ltd (ASX:CVT) is a global technology company providing data-centric security solutions that help businesses and governments identify, protect, and control access to sensitive information. At Covata, we approach data security through the lens of the attacker – the starting point is the user device and data is the endpoint. By restricting access to sensitive content up to and including the IT Administrators, the Covata Data Security Platform makes information harder to steal or misuse rather than hardening the devices where information is stored. With offices in Australia, Europe, and the United States, organisations around the world trust Covata to secure their most sensitive data.
Discovery and Classification
The Importance of Data Discovery and Classification
Ensuring security of data and compliance with privacy regulations requires understanding what sensitive and regulated data exists and where it resides. Further, the data discovery process must be performed regularly to guarantee accurate scope of data security and privacy compliance efforts. The Covata Data Discovery solution delivers results faster and easier than any other data discovery tools in the market. Also, the Covata Data Discovery tool is purpose-built to search unstructured data repositories that are typically ignored by tools that only search databases.
How does it work?
Covata Data Discovery installs quickly and is pre-configured to find credit card numbers, patient information, and personally identifiable information (PII) used in several countries. Users can also create custom sensitive data types, a feature useful for locating intellectual property and other sensitive data types specific to your business. A single installation of the Covata Data Discovery solution is able to search for information in local and remote file shares, Microsoft SharePoint, and Office 365 without any additional software. Covata Data Discovery uses keywords, regular expressions (patterns), and post-processing (for example, the Luhn Algorithm) to identify sensitive and regulated information.
What is CipherPoint Eclipse?
CipherPoint Eclipse is a suite of integrated data security and privacy compliance solutions for Microsoft SharePoint, file servers, and Office 365 (SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business). CipherPoint Eclipse provides transparent file and list encryption, centralised permissions management, and granular activity logging for sensitive and regulated data in Microsoft unstructured data repositories. CipherPoint Eclipse is unique in the ability to control privileged user (e.g. Farm administrators, Site Collection Administrators, Database Administrations, etc.) access to data.
How does it work?
The CipherPoint Eclipse product suite includes a centralised security server for policy administration and automated encryption key management, and agents that enforce security policies for information on file servers, SharePoint, and Office 365. The solution is totally transparent to end users and does not require deployment of software to user devices. As users upload information to a location secured by CipherPoint Eclipse that information is immediately and transparently encrypted and remains encrypted in use, in flight, and at rest. Only users authorised by the centrally controlled access policies may view unencrypted content.
What is SafeShare?
Covata SafeShare is a file sharing and collaboration solution that protects business information from breaches and enables governance and regulatory compliance requirements for ITAR & EAR and other regulation requirements. SafeShare ensures the storage, sharing, retrieval and collaboration of sensitive data remains streamlined, accessible and secure – within your organization’s network, outside your organization’s network, to mobile devices and to the cloud. It is available as a private or a public cloud solution.
How does it work?
When an authorised user uploads data using their browser or mobile application SafeShare transparently encrypts the information using unique cryptographic keys for each file. Files remain encrypted within the SafeShare application and also when synchronized to an end-user device. It does not decrypt data until the authorised users view it on their devices. Granular permissions let you control which users can view, download, and edit sensitive information.
SafeShare for ITAR
SafeShare for ITAR is a file storage system that encrypts files as they are uploaded into the system. Documents are then automatically un-encrypted when accessed by authorized individuals.
This approach to high security data management is called ‘Data-Centric Security’ where the focus is on protecting the data itself, as the key asset, rather than depending on network security or blocking intruders at the perimeter.
Sensitive Data Is Protected
Because the files are encrypted end-to-end, then even if the system is compromised your documents are protected from being read by anyone that you have not authorized.
The encryption keys are strictly managed by the SafeShare for ITAR system to enforce access control according to permissions set by the document owner. Even your IT systems administrator cannot access the files or encryption keys.
Cloud Based – No IT Infrastructure Required
SafeShare for ITAR is a secure, ITAR complaint cloud-based system with files stored in a US sovereign cloud. Other than internet access, there are no requirements or dependencies on your IT infrastructure for set up or ongoing operation.
Easy to Use System for Compliant ITAR Record Keeping
SafeShare for ITAR provides a secure, structured records storage system for compliance with ITAR record keeping requirements.
SafeShare for ITAR Pricing
SafeShare for ITAR was designed for small-to-medium businesses, including entry-level pricing for as few as 25 users, 25 GB of data storage, and quality support.
