The Small Cap Wrap: First Graphene bets on portfolio breadth as graphene markets mature and more...

AuKing Mining Ltd (ASX:AKN) says a recently completed airborne survey has revealed that its Tundulu Rare Earths Project in Malawi hosts a much larger carbonatite system than previously recognised, identifying multiple new drill targets ahead of a major exploration campaign.

The high-resolution drone-based magnetic and LiDAR survey has confirmed that historical drilling at Tundulu focused on only a small portion of a broader intrusive complex centred on Nathace Hill, with significant areas of the system remaining unexplored beneath shallow sedimentary cover.

The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index (ASX: XSO) slipped 43.7 points, or 1.25%, to close at 3,461.5 yesterday and has eased a further 5.1 points, or 0.15%, over the past five trading days as investors continued to weigh risk sentiment across the small-cap sector.

Despite the softer broader market performance, several junior explorers have delivered operational updates this morning, highlighting drilling progress, resource expansion potential and new exploration targets across gold, rare earths and critical minerals projects.

RBC Capital Markets has initiated coverage of Sylvania Platinum (AIM:SLP), the AIM-listed platinum group metals producer, with an Outperform rating and a price target of 175p, implying 90% upside from the current share price of 92p.

The bank's investment case centres on what it describes as a systematic mispricing of the stock, which trades at 0.6x net asset value and a 20% free cash flow yield on 2027 estimates, valuations it says are more consistent with a distressed junior than a high-margin, cash-generative business.

Longspur Research has initiated coverage of Gelion PLC (AIM:GELN, OTC:GELNF, FRA:X0S), the battery materials company, with a central case valuation of 153p per share, representing nearly eight times the current share price of 19.25p.

The broker's bullish case rests on Gelion's proprietary nano-encapsulated sulfur cathode active material, a technology it says can produce batteries that outperform conventional lithium-ion chemistries while costing less to manufacture, even when made in the West.

Graphene was once marketed as a breakthrough material capable of improving almost everything. As the industry moves from laboratory testing into commercial deployment, a different challenge is emerging: not whether graphene works, but how best to use it.

According to First Graphene Ltd (ASX:FGR, OTCQB:FGPHF, FRA:M11) managing director Michael Bell, that means a shift towards tailoring graphene materials to the needs of individual industries and manufacturing processes.
