Building upon two decades of disciplined investment and operating expertise, the building of numerous successful public and private companies, and over $20 billion in value creation, Amphion provides an opportunity to participate in both public and private early-stage investments, with a primary focus on life science and technology companies 

Amphion’s Value-Creation Process

The Directors believe that the key to Amphion’s success will be the continued pursuit of the management’s successful multi-phase process for value creation.

Richard C. E. Morgan, Interim Chairman, Executive Director

Richard C. E. MorganOver the course of his career, Mr. Morgan has been directly involved in the start-up and development of more than 35 companies in the information technology, healthcare, and biotechnology industries. Mr. Morgan was a founder and CEO of Amphion Capital Partners LLC (the predecessor company to Amphion Innovations). He was also the Managing General Partner of Amphion Partners LLC (formerly known as Wolfensohn Partners, LP) a position which he retains, although the partnership is no longer active.

Before joining Wolfensohn, Mr. Morgan spent 15 years with Schroders plc, a British merchant bank, where he was a member of the board of the merchant bank and head of the Schroder Strategy Group, which he founded. Mr. Morgan, a British citizen, was raised in Kenya and educated in England. He graduated with a B. Engineering First Class Honors from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In 1982 he completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

 

 

Stephen Austin, Non-Executive Director

Stephen AustinStephen began his career practicing corporate law, latterly in the London office of US law firm Dechert LLP, before moving into finance as a director of Teather & Greenwood, then a leading small and mid cap broker where he acted as a Nominated Advisor and Broker.  He then co-founded the London based small cap broker Hybridan LLP where he was co-managing partner for four years.  He is currently the Chief Investment Officer of Plumtree Capital Limited, an FCA authorised and regulated firm, which originates and advises institutional investors on special situation investment opportunities.
 


 

 

Robert J. Bertoldi, Executive Director

Robert J. BertoldiPrior to his involvement with the Company, Mr. Bertoldi was a founder President and CFO of Amphion Capital Partners LLC (the predecessor company) and VennWorks LLC. Mr. Bertoldi is also a general partner of Amphion Partners LLC (formerly known as Wolfensohn Partners, LP). Prior to that, he served as Chief Financial Officer for James D. Wolfensohn, Inc. and Hambro America Inc.

He began his career at KPMG and left as a manager in the investment services department. Mr. Bertoldi received a B.A. in Accounting and Economics from Queens College, New York in 1976 and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1978. He is a member of the AICPA and NYSCPA.


 

 

Philip Tansey, Non-Executive Director

Robert J. BertoldiMr. Tansey is Non-Executive Director and Chairman of Amphion’s Audit Committee. He has extensive experience leading global operations in dynamic enterprises. In 2011 he joined Panmure Gordon as a main Board Executive Director from BGC Partners Inc. where he was Chief Control Officer. Over six years with Panmure Gordon he managed the day-to-day operation of the firm's infrastructure, its public accounts and significant transactions including acquisitions, restructurings and legal negotiations including a major turn-around and clean-up operation. He also acted as Company Secretary. 

Before joining BGC, he was a director within Deutsche Bank’s Office of Internal Controls. His career has also spanned Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was Chief Operating Officer of the bank’s fixed income and derivatives product control group. He is a qualified FCA and started after qualifying at Salomon Brothers.
