The UK Climate Change Committee has called for the government to continue supporting cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, saying investment in decarbonising the country will lead to lower household bills and fewer of the energy price shocks that cause major economic slowdown.

An 87% cut on greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 was recommended as part of the committee's seventh carbon budget, including emissions from international aviation and shipping.
