Recce Pharmaceuticals secures Japanese patent in world’s third-largest pharmaceutical market

Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd has strengthened its global intellectual property position with a notice of allowance from the Japan Patent Office for Patent Family 4, covering its new class of synthetic anti-infectives. The patent, which extends to 2041, marks the fourth granted under this family, alongside approvals in Australia, Canada, and Israel, with further Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) submissions in various stages of review.

Japan is the third-largest pharmaceutical market globally and accounts for approximately 5% of the total pharmaceutical sector. The country’s antibiotic resistance market is projected to reach US$411.3 million (AU$647M) by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.1% from 2024 to 2030.

The latest patent approval reinforces Recce’s strategic push into high-value markets, securing intellectual property protection in a region with significant demand for novel anti-infective therapies.

Japan Patent claims reinforce broad potential of RECCE® anti-infectives

The Japan Patent claims relate to RECCE® 327 (R327) and RECCE® 529 (R529), most notably:

  • Process for preparation of RECCE® anti-infectives.
  • Use of R327/R529 for the treatment of disease, particularly in the treatment of bacterial infections, viral infections, and more, specifically:
  • Acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI)
  • Diabetic Foot Infections (DFI)
  • Burn Wounds
  • Lung Infections (including Ventilator-associated pneumonia/Hospital-acquired pneumonia)
  • Urinary Tract Infections
  • Gonorrhoea
  • Influenza
  • SARS-CoV2
  • Administration methods include:
  • Oral, inhalation, transdermal delivery, or injection (into the bloodstream, intramuscular and/or intravenous).
