Proactive Mining Highlights: Yamana, Ariana, Greatland and more

Yamana Gold (TSX:YRI) shares jumped over 5% after the company reported record gold production and cash flow for the fourth quarter of 2021 and raised its output forecast for 2023.

Production from Yamana’s mines totalled 281,388 gold equivalent ounces (GEO) in the final three months of 2021, significantly exceeding the company’s guidance of 270,000 GEO. Annual production of a record 1.01mln GEO was also above guidance of 1mln GEO.

Bens Creek Group PLC (AIM:BEN, OTC:BENCF), the owner of a metallurgical coal mine in North America, is to issue a second convertible loan note to raise US$6mln.

The terms of the convertible loan note (CLN) are broadly the same as the first convertible loan note issued by the company on 14 December 2021, apart from the conversion price, which is set at 40p per new ordinary share, and the rate of interest, which is reduced to 12% a year from 15%.

Ariana Resources PLC (AIM:AAU) has announced the dates for the second tranche of the company's special dividend next month and confirmed the third tranche will be proposed for shareholder approval at the annual general meeting in June.

The mineral explorer and developer said the second tranche of 0.175p per share will be paid on 25 March, with the ex-dividend date being 3 March 2022.

Future Metals NL (ASX:FME, AIM:FME) has received wide, shallow platinum-group-metal (PGM) assays from resource definition drilling at its wholly-owned Panton Nickel-PGM Project in northern Western Australia, adding more evidence to support the deposit’s bulk tonnage potential.

Assay results have been received from three of 52 holes, consisting of 19 new holes drilled by FME and 22 historic drill holes that were previously untested.

Tharisa PLC (LSE:THS, JSE:THA) has announced an agreement that sees it acquire the interests in the Tharisa Mine, in South Africa, held by black economic empowerment stakeholders which will instead receive share in the larger group.

The agreement sees the 26% interest in the Tharisa Minerals Proprietary Limited subsidiary held by BEE stakeholders acquired for US$25.6mln (ZAR 390mln) paid in Tharisa Plc shares.

Technology Minerals PLC (LSE:TM1) is expected to be profitable from next year, said broker Arden Partners (AIM:ARDN) as it initiated coverage of the battery metals recycling and exploration company with a ‘Buy’ recommendation.

Arden said it expects the company to generate earnings per share of 0.26p in 2023, jumping to 0.44p in 2024 and continuing to rise strongly thereafter.

Pan African Resources PLC (AIM:PAF, OTCQX:PAFRY, JSE:PAN, OTCQX:PAFRF) reported higher interim pretax profit helped by record gold production.

Pretax profit for the six months to end December 2001 climbed to US$61.6mln (£45.4mln) from US$60.0mln in the year-earlier period, while revenue rose 5.3% to US$193.6mln as higher gold sales outweighed a decline in the price it received for its gold.

Red Rock Resources PLC (AIM:RRR) said copper and cobalt were found in a wide-spaced reverse circulation (RC) drill programme that has "greatly exceeded" expectations at the Luanshimba copper-cobalt project in the Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

As a result of 2,469m of drilling across 29 holes, Luanshimba, which is operated by 80% owned Congolese subsidiary Red Rock Galaxy SA, now has three named prospects: Kilembwe (18 holes), Luanshimba North (9 holes) and Luanshimba East (2 holes).

Rio Tinto PLC (LSE:RIO) said it agreed on a new management plan with Yinhawangka Aboriginal Corp to ensure the protection of significant social and cultural heritage values as part of the miner’s proposed development of the Western Range iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The management plan is the result of strong collaboration over the past year between the Yinhawangka people and Rio Tinto and outlines protocols for joint decision making on environmental matters, mine planning and closure, it said.

BHP Group Limited (LSE:BHP) announced a better-than-expected interim dividend and underlying earnings helped by higher sales prices across its major commodities and a strong operational performance.

Underlying profits (EBITDA) jumped 33% to US$18.5bn (£13.7bn) for the six months to end December 2021 as revenue grew 27% to US$30.5bn.

The results from one drill hole at Lakanfla Central intersected 1.23 grammes per tonne (g/t) of gold over 127 metres (m) from a depth of 21m, including 2.53 g/t gold over 14m.

Cornish Metals Inc (AIM:CUSN, TSX-V:CUSN, OTC:SBWFF) has reached an agreement with Sir Ferrers Vyvyan of Trelowarren in Cornwall to lease certain mineral rights owned by the Vyvyan family.

The mineral lease covers an area of 222 hectares and is valid for 25 years. The lease will enable Cornish Metals to explore and mine within all the mineral right areas owned by the Vyvyan family inside the South Crofty Underground Permission Area, and explore certain other mineral right areas adjacent to the South Crofty property.

Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN) is returning US$4bn to shareholders following an 84% rise in profits for 2021, driven by record high prices for many of its commodities.

The miner posted underlying profits (adjusted EBITDA) of US$21bn for the year to 31 December 2021, compared with US$11.5bn the year before, on revenue up 43% at US$203.7bn.

Castillo Copper Ltd (LSE:CCZ, ASX:CCZ) has discovered four shallow zones of cobalt mineralisation, hosted within the East Zone of the Broken Hill Alliance (BHA) Project – a combination of two project tenures adjacent to the town of Broken Hill – with legacy coding and analysis of 6,182 historic drill cores from the area.

Said coding is now 70% complete, the data from which will soon be used to model a JORC mineral resource estimate focused on cobalt mineralisation with potential for base metal credits.

Kodal Minerals PLC (AIM:KOD) said it continued to make progress on the development of the Bougouni lithium project, following a site visit last month, and also reported wide intersections of gold mineralisation from drilling at the Fatou gold project.

“During the site visit to Mali in January, meetings were held with the Minister of Mines to discuss our upcoming work and development programme,” said chief executive Bernard Aylward. “Kodal continues to receive strong support from the Mali government and regional officials for the development of a new lithium mine in the Bougouni region."

The East African focused gold producer placed 177mln new shares at 1.12 pence each, slightly above the company’s closing share price of 1.10 pence on Friday.
