The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index (ASX:XSO) slipped 25.1 points, or 0.74%, to 3,367.6, extending its five-day decline to 1.68% as weakness across the small-cap sector continued despite a steady stream of positive company announcements.

Even as the broader index retreated, several ASX-listed companies reported significant developments spanning biotechnology, gold exploration, critical minerals and strategic resource expansion, highlighting continued project momentum across the sectors. Among the day's notable announcements, Recce Pharmaceuticals strengthened its global intellectual property portfolio, Astral Resources extended mineralisation beneath its flagship Mandilla Gold Project, Alkane Resources reported encouraging drilling from Brunswick South, Kingfisher Mining delivered more high-grade copper-gold assays near Broken Hill, Nova Minerals advanced its US antimony strategy and Ora Banda Mining unveiled a substantial increase in resources and reserves at Davyhurst. Papa John's International Inc (NASDAQ:PZZA) was downgraded to 'Underperform' from 'Neutral' by Bank of America, with analysts citing the company's chief financial officer's departure, persistent competitive pressures and a less optimistic outlook for same-store sales growth (SSSG).

The brokerage lowered its price objective to $34 from $42, in line with current levels, and reduced its earnings forecasts, writing that former CFO Ravi Thanawala's departure "suggests rapid SSSG turn unlikely."

Agenus (Agenus Inc (NASDAQ:AGEN)) shares jumped about 100% on Monday after the biotechnology company announced an oversubscribed private placement of up to $340 million to support development of its botensilimab and balstilimab (BOT+BAL) immunotherapy combination in microsatellite-stable (MSS) colon cancer.

The financing includes approximately $85 million in upfront gross proceeds, with an additional potential $255 million available through the full exercise of purchase warrants. The transaction was led by Commodore Capital, with participation from RA Capital Management, TCGX, Invus, and Ligand Pharmaceuticals.

Greenfire Resources Ltd. (NYSE:GFR, TSX:GFR) plans to raise at least C$575 million through a rights offering to help fund its proposed acquisition of Connacher Oil and Gas Limited, with majority shareholder Waterous Energy Fund backstopping the entire amount.

The Calgary-based thermal oil producer said it expects to launch the rights offering in August 2026, subject to approvals and market conditions. The offering will be made to all holders of Greenfire common shares as of a record date still to be set, and the net proceeds will be used to repay a C$575 million bridge loan facility the company will incur in connection with the Connacher acquisition.

Northstar Gold Corp. (CSE:NSG) announced that it has received its first reimbursement of about C$628,000 under the Surgical Mining for Critical Minerals Project, a consortium initiative involving Novamera, Micon International, and DIGITAL – Canada's Global Innovation Cluster for digital technologies.

The payment reimburses eligible project expenditures related to advancing the company's Cam Copper Zone 2 Surgical Mining initiative at its Miller Copper-Gold Property near Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

First Phosphate Corp. (CSE:PHOS, OTCQX:FRSPF, FRA:KD0, OTC:FPHOY) announced it has closed the final tranche of its non-brokered private placement financing, bringing total gross proceeds raised across two tranches to approximately C$17.7 million.

The company raised about C$17.7 million through the issuance of 7.2 million flow-through shares for approximately C$14.5 million and 1.6 million hard dollar units for about C$3.2 million.

G Mining Ventures Corp (TSX:GMIN, OTCQX:GMINF, FRA:W97) and G2 Goldfields Inc (TSX-V:GTWO, OTCQX:GUYGF) said the parties are working through the remaining closing conditions for their proposed plan of arrangement, which are expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.

Under the arrangement, GMIN will acquire all issued and outstanding G2 shares, and G2 will complete the spin-out of G3 Goldfields.

Pinnacle Silver & Gold Corp (TSX-V:PINN, OTCQB:PSGCF, FRA:P9J) announced plans for a non-brokered private placement to raise gross proceeds of up to C$2.2 million to fund work at its El Potrero gold-silver project in Mexico and for general working capital.

The offering will consist of up to 20 million units priced at C$0.11 each. Each unit will include one common share and one-half of one share purchase warrant. Each whole warrant will be exercisable at C$0.16 per share for a period of 24 months from the date of issuance.
