Cairn is cutting its cloth in the aftermath of crude’s collapse which was triggered by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the breakdown of the OPEC+ cabal.
Cairn generated US$390mln of cash in 2019, spent US$242mln of capex and ended the year with debt facilities undrawn.
Net oil production for 2019 averaged 23,000 barrels per day (bopd) versus guidance of 21,000 to 23,000 bopd.
“Senegal is now an attractive oil and gas province, drawing the attention of the global industry,” said Simon Thomson.
"Cash harvesting" has shielded companies like Cairn and EnQuest from downside price risks.
"This is a further attractive transaction for Cairn shareholders in line with our consistent strategy to realise value and redeploy capital within our portfolio,” said Simon Thomson.
