Big Picture – A Deep Dive Examination of the Kazera Global PLC
Kazera Global PLC Snapshot
Kazera Global plc is an investing company listed on AIM, focused principally, but not exclusively, in the resources and energy sectors. The Company has made a first investment in African Tantalum (Pty) Ltd, a Namibian based operation producing tantalite concentrate. In view of the attractive opportunities in tantalum, in the shorter term, the Company is likely to continue to invest in related projects located in Southern Africa.
However, the Company will also consider investments in other geographical regions on a case-by-case basis. It may be either an active investor and acquire control of a single company or it may acquire non-controlling shareholdings. Once a target has been identified, additional funds may need to be raised by the Company to complete a transaction.
The proposed investments to be made by the Company may be in either quoted or unquoted securities; made by direct acquisition; may be in companies, partnerships, joint ventures; or direct interests in projects and can be at any stage of development. The Company’s equity interest in a proposed investment may range from a minority position to 100 per cent ownership.
Namibia Tantalie Investment Mine
Kazera Global currently holds a 75% stake in Aftan, which in turn holds two wholly owned subsidiaries, Namibia Tantalite Investments (NTI) (holds operating assets and plant) and Tameka Shelf Company (holds title and licences to Tantalite Valley).
Kazera Global has been invested in NTI since 2015 and with Aftan’s cooperation, is focused on production of tantalum and exploration of lithium. The Mine has one of the highest grades of tantalum ore in the industry.
In 2017, the company signed a multi-year supply agreement with the leading global North American tantalum consumer and end user of our tantalum ore. Aftan is exploring further opportunities to supply additional customers as production ramps up.
In December 2017, drilling commenced on two exploration campaigns in the Homestead and Lepidolite locations to evaluate further resource potential around the NTI mine.
In addition to significant tantalum potential, the NTI mine has shown potential for lithium production.
Aftan is a dedicated tantalum company. Through its subsidiaries, the Company manages and operates the Tantalite Valley Mine (TVM) in Southern Namibia, near Warmbad in the Karas District.
What is tantalite/tantalum?
Tantalite (or coltan) is a naturally occurring oxide; the main ore and source of oxides and metallic tantalum
Tantalum is the refined elemental metal (although mostly used as high purity oxides)
Its key attributes include: excellent electrical characteristics, extremely high melting point, forgiving in all types of weather conditions, strong alloying and high resistance to corrosion.
Tantalum’s unique physical and chemical properties are expected to ensure high usage in new technologies and has been in our materials since the early 1800’s
Tantalite, or coltan, is a key component in the building of electronic capacitors, which without this mineral, many electronic devices around the world would stop. In particular, Tantalum is used in;
. Mobile Phones
. LCD TV
In addition to this, when alloyed with other metals, tantalum is used in fabricating carbide tools for metalworking equipment, jet engine components, chemical process equipment, nuclear reactors and missile parts and is widely used in automotive electronics such as anti-lock braking systems (ABS), navigation systems, wheel traction control, airbag inflation, engine management and fuel economy.
