Visa (NYSE:V), Mastercard (NYSE:MA), Netflix and Tiktok are the latest companies to limit or suspend services in Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
Two of the big four accounting firms, KGMG and PwC, also said they would no longer have a member firm in Russia.
Visa's chief executive Al Kelly said: "We are compelled to act following Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, and the unacceptable events that we have witnessed."
Mastercard described the events of the past 10 days as "shocking and devastating", adding: "We don't take this decision lightly. Mastercard has operated in Russia for more than 25 years."
TikTok, the video focused social networking company, said it had suspended live streaming and new content from its platform to crack down on misinformation and fake news about Russia’s army.
TikTok said it took the decision to ensure the safety of its users and staff in Russia, where it has roughly 36mln members.
TikTok announced the move in a series of tweets, saying it had “no choice but to suspend live-streaming and new content” in response to Russia’s ‘fake news’ law.
According to the BBC, anyone who spreads news deemed false about the military in Russia could face up to 15 years in prison.
Video streaming giant Netflix, which has one billion users worldwide, said it was pulling out in protest of the invasion, having been criticised for not speaking out against the invasion.
After saying last week that it had temporarily stopped all future projects and purchases, it took that one step further over the weekend and decided to suspend its service in the country.
Other organisations such as Apple, Nike, Jaguar, Land Rover, H&M, Burberry and Asos have also all stopped their operations in the country.
