Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG) continues a systematic approach to exploration of its extensive Rockford project land package in WA’s Fraser Range, aiming to emulate the success of Independence Group Ltd (ASX:IGO).
The company is primarily targeting nickel-copper-cobalt along trend from IGO’s Nova-Bollinger deposit along with copper-zinc near IGO’s recent Andromeda discovery.
Extensive innovative high power moving loop EM surveys (MLTEM) will continue this quarter in conjunction with regional aircore drilling over selected targets.

The company has had success in identifying targets utilising these methods and aims to continue its consolidation of the Rockford project, which covers a total area of 2,792.5 square kilometres.
Most of Rockford is subject to a joint venture between Legend (70%) and Creasy Group (30%), with Legend operator and manager with the remaining 262.5 square kilometres 100%-owned by Legend.
The majority of recent work has been at Area D where a comprehensive geophysical and geological review was undertaken after completion of an aircore drilling program.

MLTEM surveys continue
This resulted in the design of extensive MLTEM surveys which are continuing.
The ultimate aim is to identify new conductors associated with massive sulphide mineralisation hosted by mafic/ultramafic intrusions and to better define previously identified conductors.
MLTEM surveying will cover four zones with coherent anomalous nickel-copper-cobalt geochemistry identified by the aircore drilling, and a wider 32 square kilometre area containing mafic/ultramafic intrusions.

During the September quarter, Legend has also been working in the southern portion of the Rockford project where a new prospective exploration trend, the Andromeda Stratigraphic Package (ASP), has been identified.
This follows IGO’s discovery of the Andromeda Copper-Zinc Project, just 7-kilometres south of Legend’s ground and within the NE-SW trending magnetically distinct ASP.
Potential for VHMS deposits
The discovery has highlighted the potential of the Fraser Zone within the larger Albany-Fraser Orogen to also host volcanic-hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) deposits.

Legend has completed 32 aircore holes for 1,139 metres over the southern ASP portion in the September quarter and a MLTEM survey has been commissioned to begin once logistical details are finalised.
At Rockford South extensive regional aircore drilling was undertaken during the September quarter with 174 holes for 10,849 metres completed.
Further aircore drilling
A further 40 holes are planned for the December quarter to complete the program.
This is aimed at providing lithological and geochemical information on four previously identified EM conductors - two in Area J with others in Area Q and Area U - along with a number of aeromagnetic and gravity features.
The design of this program is the result of a project-wide review and is part of Legend’s systematic exploration approach.
