Kefi confirms staff safe after fatal Tulu Kapi attack as local investors step up

KEFI Gold and Copper PLC (AIM:KEFI, OTC:KFFLF, FRA:KMSA), the AIM-listed explorer developing the Tulu Kapi gold project in Ethiopia, said all employees affected by last week's security incident have been accounted for, with no further casualties.

One employee was killed and Kefi suspended development at the site after the attack on 4 September.

Since then, senior management has held detailed consultations with community representatives and Ethiopian federal and regional governments, which the company said unanimously reaffirmed support for the project.

Lycopodium (ASX:LYL), the lead design and construction contractor, has its oversight team in Ethiopia reviewing and refining plans while the situation is assessed.

Investors were told development will not resume until a full investigation is complete and a safe operating environment established.

Executive chairman Harry Anagnostaras-Adams, who travelled to Ethiopia immediately after the incident, said the government "has committed to do whatever it can to overcome this serious setback", pledging to accelerate the "Ethiopianisation" of the project.

In the update, Kefi also reported renewed and increased interest from Ethiopian institutions and family offices in redeemable preference shares at subsidiary level, non-dilutive funding that would add financial flexibility if required.
