Ryanair Holdings PLC (LSE:RYA) secured a bullish endorsement from Citi on Monday, as the investment bank looked past near-term pricing fears to map out massive structural gains.
The carrier's US-listed shares surged 5.61% to $57.57 as Citi took an upbeat stance, arguing that a tough winter will ultimately crush smaller competitors.
At the heart of the update is a stark assessment that high jet-fuel prices and squeezed yields will severely punish airlines with weaker balance sheets.
That short-term pain across the broader European short-haul network is expected to funnel market share straight back to the low-cost carrier.
Those operational pressures, plus less robust fuel hedging among regional rivals, should structurally enhance the company's competitive position heading into next year.
Looking ahead, Citi anticipates that broader industry margin anxieties will naturally subside once the winter shakeout runs its course.
On the same note, the broker calculated a base-case upside of 40% and a bull-case upside of 80%, even if near-term weakness drags the stock toward recent €18 valuation troughs.
Its modellers estimate the airline's EV/EBIT multiple will drop from 11 times to a highly attractive seven times over the next three years.
Beyond the immediate turbulence, the broker tipped share buybacks to resurface as a primary upside catalyst once those competitive headwinds finally clear.
