ImmuPharma PLC (AIM:IMM, FRA:25I), the specialist drug discovery and development company, has highlighted new research into its lead drug candidate as a possible treatment for an aggressive form of brain cancer.
The AIM-listed company pointed to an article in the scientific journal Autophagy reporting early-stage work by the University of Murcia.
The research examines the P140 peptide and its potential application in glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive brain cancers.
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids that can be designed to act on specific biological targets.
ImmuPharma said it had been aware of and followed the Murcia research since 2024 and was in regular contact with the university's team.
The company described the findings as supportive of its broader scientific work on P140 and consistent with the rationale behind the programme.
It stressed that P140 remained its lead asset.
ImmuPharma said its primary focus continued to be advancing the peptide as a treatment for autoimmune disease, rather than cancer.
The glioblastoma research, therefore, represents a potential additional application for the drug rather than a change in the company's core strategy.
