GENinCode shares rise over 18% intraday after coronary disease test results presented at European conference

Shares in GENinCode PLC (AIM:GENI) rose as much as 18.42% during Friday's trading session, before trading 7.90% higher at 1.03 pence after clinical results for the company's genetic test were presented at a European cardiology conference.

The predictive genetics company, which develops these tests for cardiovascular disease and ovarian cancer risk, opened at 1.03 pence, up from Thursday's close of 0.95 pence.

The results were presented by the Institut Català de la Salut, the healthcare authority for the Catalonia region of Spain, at the European Society of Cardiology's annual congress in Munich.

The data came from an 18-month pilot study involving 584 patients across 14 primary care centres in Catalonia.

The results showed that combining genetic testing with standard clinical assessment meaningfully reclassified cardiovascular risk and improved risk factors, including cholesterol and smoking rates, within eight months of testing.

Patients had previously been assessed as being at moderate cardiovascular risk using traditional clinical risk assessment.

Adding genetic testing to that assessment changed the overall risk classification for 42.6% of these patients.

Average cardiovascular risk across the study group fell from 7.30% to 6.04% within a mean follow-up period of 8.5 months.

Sustained smoking abstinence among patients rose from 43.7% to 62.8% over the same period.

The findings add to a growing body of evidence on genetic risk scoring in cardiovascular prevention, although polygenic risk scores are not currently recommended for routine use in European clinical guidelines.
