Gelion PLC (AIM:GELN, OTC:GELNF, FRA:X0S) said it has signed an exclusive commercial licence agreement with Max-Planck-Innovation GmbH, giving the company long-term global rights to intellectual property covering nano-encapsulated sulfur cathode technology and novel nano-confined anode materials.
The AIM-listed sulfur battery developer said the deal follows a March 2025 collaboration agreement, under which Gelion had secured an exclusive option to acquire commercial rights to the technology.
The new agreement formalises that option and marks a key step in moving the programme from research collaboration toward commercial deployment.
The licence covers existing background IP and allows for appropriate new foreground IP generated through Gelion’s collaboration with the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces to be added to the licensed rights.
Gelion said this strengthens its intellectual property position, reduces commercialisation risk and gives greater certainty for future industrial partnerships and customer qualification work.
Under the agreement, Gelion will make staged cash payments to Max-Planck-Innovation based on milestones and grant royalties over net sales of Nano-Encapsulated Sulfur Cathode Active Materials.
Chief executive John Wood said the Max Planck technology had “more than delivered” on expectations, adding that the company can now extend development and materials testing toward the start of commercial collaboration activities.
