Surefire Resources NL (ASX:SRN, FRA:GBL) has identified a new gold prospect at its 100%-owned Yidby project in Western Australia, with high-grade surface samples confirming previously untested mineralisation north of the existing deposit.
Rock chip sampling at the newly named “Loot” prospect returned grades of up to 12.04 g/t gold, alongside results of 3.66 g/t and 1.70 g/t, from a previously unexplored area about 1.5 kilometres north of the Yidby gold deposit.
The results point to a new style of mineralisation hosted in albitite — a felsic intrusive rock — and open up a broader exploration corridor extending around 2 kilometres across the project area.

New zone builds on historic clues
The discovery follows up historic work by Western Mining Corporation in the 1970s, which had identified gold-bearing intrusive rocks in the same area, including assays of up to 10.56 g/t gold.
Surefire’s recent fieldwork has now confirmed and extended those results, identifying mineralised albitite at two locations roughly 500 metres apart.

The company said the presence of “abundant float” material and consistent high-grade surface results highlights strong exploration potential for additional gold mineralisation at Yidby.
Geologically, the mineralisation appears linked to albitite units associated with major shear zones — a setting commonly tied to gold deposits across Western Australia’s Yilgarn Craton.

Expanding footprint around Yidby
The Loot prospect sits between the existing Yidby deposit and the historic Cashens Find workings, where past production totalled 700 tonnes at 4.7 g/t gold.
Importantly, the same albitite host rock identified at Loot is also present at Cashens Find, suggesting a potentially continuous mineralised system.

Previous drilling at Cashens has already returned encouraging results, including:
- 8 metres at 2.01 g/t gold
- 9 metres at 0.94 g/t gold
- 5 metres at 0.96 g/t gold
Across the broader Yidby system, drilling has demonstrated wide zones of mineralisation, with deeper intercepts indicating higher-grade shoots developing at depth and along plunge.
Drilling under way to test extensions
Surefire is progressing a two-stage reverse circulation drilling program of around 10,000 metres, designed to:
- Extend known mineralisation along strike and at depth
- Test north–south extensions around Cashens
- Evaluate geophysical targets at the nearby Copper Hill prospect

The company noted that mineralisation at Yidby appears to plunge to the northwest, with recent drilling intersecting higher grades at depth — supporting the potential for repeat structures and system continuity.

Strategy reset alongside exploration push
Alongside the exploration update, Surefire outlined a refreshed strategic direction aimed at improving execution and unlocking value across its Western Australian asset portfolio.
The company has engaged consulting firm Rowntree Pty Ltd, with industry veteran Marcus Flis brought in to help guide operations and project development.
In a further change, Surefire confirmed that CEO Dr Andrew Whitehead has stepped down, with the role to remain vacant during the strategic realignment.
Building momentum at Yidby
The Loot discovery adds to growing exploration momentum at Yidby, where Surefire has been steadily expanding its understanding of the gold system through drilling and geological reinterpretation.
Recent work has highlighted the scale of the mineralised envelope and the potential for multiple zones, with earlier updates flagging both high-grade drilling intersections and broader system continuity.
With a new mineralisation style now confirmed and a large portion of the corridor still untested, the latest results sharpen the focus on Yidby as a key growth asset within the company’s portfolio.
