Week ahead: AstraZeneca among group of FTSE reporters, plus Disney, Arm and Spotify earnings

Three of the FTSE 100's five largest companies are reporting in the coming week, with financial results also due from three more from the top 30, while across the pond there's plenty more big names still dishing out earnings.

As well as numbers from AstraZeneca, BP, Unilever, Compass, BAT, SSE and Vodafone, there's also a trio of housebuilders, plus in the US we hear from ARM Holdings, Disney, Ford, PepsiCo (NASDAQ:PEP), Illumina, Spotify, Paypal, Uber and Take-Two.

Monday 5 February

Company previews:

Vodafone Group PLC (LSE:VOD) investors still have no clearer picture of how the business will look once the widespread restructuring underway settles down, with this third-quarter update expected to again contain a lot of good intentions but minimal growth …read the preview.

Barratt is one of three housebuilders reporting this week, with share prices having been on the up since the autumn as investors spy green shoots for the sector… read the preview.

In the US it's a big day for the media sector, with Disney reporting as pressure is ramped up by activist investor Nelson Peltz, while Fox Corp (NASDAQ:FOXA) and News Corp (NASDAQ:NWSA), owners of Fox News and the Wall Street Journal both publish their own earnings too.

Having lost its number one spot on the FTSE 100 last year, AstraZeneca PLC (LSE:AZN) boss Pascal Soriot will no doubt be looking to wrestle back the crown in 2024, though analysts have offered up mixed views on the value of the shares ahead of final results on Thursday.

Compass Group PLC (LSE:CPG) has been on the up ever since the pandemic and it will be a major shock if the caterer ladles out anything but dollops of more upbeat news its first-quarter update ...read the preview.

After sinking to a 14-year low in recent weeks on the back of the write-down associated with becoming a 'smokeless company', British American Tobacco PLC shares got a legal boost ahead of its final results ...read the preview.

It's a different story for renewable energy producer SSE PLC (LSE:SSE), with a sharp fall in UK power prices so far in 2024 not boding well for its third-quarter update, but analysts still expect earnings guidance to be maintained.
