Proactive weekly mining highlights: Strategic Minerals, Red Rock, Power Metal Resources and more

Pembridge Resources PLC (LSE:PERE) said Minto Metals Corp, which was recently demerged and listed in Toronto, has made an agreement with previous owner Capstone Mining to delay part of the contingent element of purchase price, as copper production increased 46% last year to 26mln lbs.

Of the original purchase by Pembridge for up to US$20mln, Minto paid US$5mln last March and was due to pay the remaining US$15mln by the end of last month.

Red Rock Resources PLC (AIM:RRR) released what it called “extremely encouraging” results for nine drill holes at the Mikei Gold Project (MGP) in Kenya.

Seven of the nine holes intercepted gold mineralisation and five of those were described as having good grades.

Gemfields Group Limited (AIM:GEM) confirmed it cut its direct stake in Sedibelo Platinum Mines Limited (SPM) to 6.54% after a simplification of the ownership structure of the platinum mines owner.

Gemfields previously held its stake via Pallinghurst Ivy Lane Capital, an investment vehicle that held a 27.64% interest in SPM, which owns and operates the Pilanesburg Platinum Mines.

December saw the mining royalty and streaming sector once again move into positive territory, with the average share price up 1.1%, with 62% of the sector experiencing positive share price movements.

For the year, the average share price was up 10.6%, a nice return for anyone with wide exposure to the sector, but with 50% of companies experiencing positive share price movements, stock picking has been key for investors seeking above the market returns. Of that 50% of companies that had positive share price movements, the average share price gain was 39%, demonstrating the importance of quality and not quantity.

Red Rock Resources PLC (AIM:RRR) has announced the acquisition of two prospective exploration projects, known as Bilbale and Boulon, in Burkina Faso.

The projects, located in the prolific Boromo and Banfora Greenstone belts respectively, span some 348 square kilometres and include artisanal activity, which shows evidence presence of high-grade gold.

Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN) and Evolution Mining Ltd (ASX:EVN) today announced the closure of the sale and purchase of Glencore’s 100% interest in the Ernest Henry copper-gold mine in Queensland, Australia.

Glencore received A$800mln and is set to receive another A$200mln in a year.

Power Metal Resources PLC (AIM:POW) chief executive Paul Johnson said the work completed during the final quarter of 2021 has set the company up well for the coming year.

The quarter included completion of a 1,092-metre drill programme at the Tati project in Botswana; the achievement of bonanza-grade silver in 10 out of 19 drillholes completed during the Phase I Silver Peak project in Canada; and rock sampling and prospecting programmes at the Tait Hill, Thibaut Lake and Clearwater uranium properties in Saskatchewan, Canada that turned out high-grade assay results.

Oracle Power PLC (AIM:ORCP) said results from its maiden drill programme at the Northern Zone gold project located around 25 kilometres from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia were "a huge achievement".

The drilling successfully targeted gold mineralisation within a series of stacked porphyry intrusions, the company noted.

Oriole Resources PLC (LSE:ORR) announced the results of a recently completed soil sampling programme at the Bibemi gold project in Cameroon.

The analysis covered 1,455 samples taken over the southern half of Bibemi, which extended and infilled historical sampling grids.

Pure Gold Mining Inc has announced a series of management changes - as it continues to work to unlock the full potential of its flagship PureGold mine in Red Lake, Ontario - and has provided a production summary for the fourth quarter.

Commercial production was declared at the new Canadian mine on August 1 this year and Maryse Bélanger was named mine general manager in November. In six years, the mine has been transformed from a pre-resource stage asset through construction toward a commercial operation.

British Lithium Limited has produced lithium carbonate at pilot-scale from the mica in granite in its new pilot plant near Roche.

As far as is known, this is the first time that lithium carbonate has been commercially produced from mica in granite.

Conroy Gold and Natural Resources PLC (AIM:CGNR), the gold exploration and development company focused on Ireland, has signed a fully-fledged joint venture deal with Turkish company Demir Export.

The joint venture covers the licences held by Conroy Gold along its 65km district-scale gold trend in the Longford-Down Massif in Ireland.

Walkabout Resources Ltd (ASX:WKT) has acquired the remaining 25% ownership of JDH Exploration for a one-off payment of GBP100,000 (A$186,854).

The acquisition gives WKT 100% ownership of more than 750 square kilometres of highly prospective exploration licences in southwest Scotland, which includes the Blackcraig Lead-Zinc-Silver Project within the Crown Estate in Dumfries and Galloway.

This key milestone will further advance the partnership arrangements as both parties continue to move forward with early-stage engineering, drilling and various community and environmental works to fast track the development of the project.
