Patrys Ltd (ASX:PAB) has finished the year strongly, with two new assets on the path to end-phase clinical trials and commercialisation and a raft of positive clinical research validating the company’s research and development program.
The company has been hard at work developing its Deoxymab Platform, based on antibody 3E10 that was originally isolated from a mouse model of a human autoimmune disease called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
3E10 has demonstrated several biological properties not generally found in antibodies, including cancer targeting, blood-brain barrier and cell penetration, and inhibition of DNA damage repair.
These properties have opened a range of therapeutic approaches for the treatment of cancer that are not currently possible, using existing, small molecule or antibody therapeutics.
Patrys has developed humanised versions of deoxymabs, both a full-sized IgG (PAT-DX3) and smaller antibody fragments (PAT-DX1), which it is developing for human therapeutic applications.
Additionally, the company is using PAT-DX1-NP to develop new drugs based on targeted delivery of nanoparticles carrying therapeutic payloads to the inside of cancer cells.

“We are working diligently to prepare PAT-DX1 for first in human studies, and are also very excited by the opportunities that PAT-DX3 is presenting to us,” Patrys CEO and managing director Dr James Campbell said in a Year in Review address.

This year Patrys achieved several clinical, commercial and corporate goals:
- Patrys published compelling preclinical data from Yale University in the Journal of Clinical Investigation - Insight, confirming the ability of PAT-DX1 to cross the blood-brain barrier and supporting its potential to be used for primary and secondary brain cancers.
- Announced a successful preclinical study from the Garvan Institute showing that PAT-DX1 is able to slow tumour growth and increase survival in an animal model of pancreatic cancer.
- Released new data demonstrating that PAT-DX3 can be used as a targeting agent for antibody drug conjugates (ADC) to deliver anti-cancer drugs to tumours in an animal model.
- Established a collaboration with Imagion Biosystems to develop new, improved imaging agents for brain cancers using Patrys’ deoxymabs.
- Expanded Patrys’ intellectual property portfolio with the granting of a US patent for its deoxymab assets.
- And successfully completed a $7.8 million capital raise to support further research and development activities.
