Westar Resources progresses extensive exploration campaign across portfolio

"It has been under 12 months since listing and we’ve completed a significant amount of technical work that has enabled the generation and testing of over 20 targets with more than 15,000 metres of drilling," says MD.

Westar Resources Ltd (ASX:WSR) has continued to advance an exploration drilling campaign across its projects, testing more than 20 targets and drilling in excess of 15,000 metres since listing on the ASX 12 months ago.

Assay results have been received from the maiden drilling campaign at Winjangoo, confirming gold mineralisation.

Extensional and infill soil sampling is in progress at the recently consolidated Gidgee North Project. Westar’s landholding at the Gidgee North Project was increased to 286 square kilometres with the grant of a tenement at South-East Bore to the company.

Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) surveying has been completed at Opaline Well, with results expected in this quarter and ground truthing for follow-up drilling at Gidgee South has been completed.

Westar is a Perth-based mineral exploration company with a focus on creating value through developing high-quality gold assets in Western Australia. Westar’s projects are strategically located in some of WA’s most prolific goldfields including Sandstone, Mt Magnet, Southern Cross and Nullagine.

“We are not slowing down”

“Westar continues to aggressively explore across its project portfolio in conjunction with developing a continuous pipeline of high-quality opportunities that are complimentary to the company’s existing projects,” Westar managing director Karl Jupp said.

“It has been under 12 months since listing and we’ve completed a significant amount of technical work that has enabled the generation and testing of over 20 targets with more than 15,000 metres of drilling.

“We are not slowing down with ongoing field work including geophysics and planning for drill testing of high-priority base metal and gold targets across the company’s Sandstone Projects.”

Winjangoo

The Winjangoo maiden drilling program consisted of an initial 38 reverse circulation (RC) drill holes for 2,980 metres. Drilling was intended to test targets within a broad mineralisation corridor identified through geochemical auger sampling.

On a project scale, the lithologies and structures interpreted from geophysics and mapping are conducive to gold mineralisation conduits and dilatational 'traps' seen in other orogenic gold systems and ongoing target refinement is in progress.

Significant intersections reported (above 0.1 g/t gold) include:

  • 1-metre at 0.25 g/t gold from 52-53 metres;
  • 1-metre at 0.22 g/t from 53-54 metres; and
  • 4 metres at 0.14 g/t from 24 metres.

Coolaloo

Westar is collaborating with external consultants on a complete project review for Coolaloo, intending to define the prospectivity of the project, corroborate untested targets and identify any additional high-potential targets.

Westar says the review is in line with the company’s exploration philosophy of “rigorous deployment of capital to optimise the best targets available in the portfolio and maintaining specified stage-gates and kill criteria for projects”.

Preliminary results reveal the project has been explored for uranium in surface calcretes, with its potential to host economical levels of mineralisation remaining largely untested.

Gidgee North and Geoff Well farm-in

Field crews are completing extensional and infill sampling at Gidgee North, after which Westar will begin additional soil sampling over the new, adjacent Geoff Well farm-in project, along with additional reconnaissance, mapping, rock chip sampling and ground truthing in preparation for drilling.

An AEM survey is scheduled for the middle to late end of this quarter, covering high priority targets in the south portion of the lease. The data will be used to generate plate models and added to soil sampling and other data sets to refine targets ahead of a maiden drilling program scheduled for the first half of 2022.

Gidgee South

Results have been received from the maiden RC drill campaign at Gidgee South, including:

  • 3 metres at 3.29 g/t gold from 35 metres, including 1-metre at 6.27 g/t from 35-36 metres;
  • 3 metres at 3.41g/t from 55 metres, including 1-metre at 7.14 g/t from 55-56 metres; and
  • 1-metre at 7.45 g/t from 42 metres.

Westar is using results from a Deep Ground Penetrating Radar (DGPR) program with geochemical signatures from testing gold-hosting quartz veins prior to planning follow up drilling at the historical Birrigrin Mining Centre, Tassies Prospect and Carbine Bore.

Opaline Well

An AEM survey has been completed at Opaline Well, with approximately 370-line kilometres flown. Data will now be processed, modelled, interpreted, and reported to market in due course.
