Neuro-imaging specialist IXICO PLC (LON:IXI) has been brought in by new client Cyclerion Therapeutics to support the latter’s phase II trial of a treatment for Alzheimer’s.
IXICO will provide its expertise in areas such as structural magnetic resonance imaging, diffusion MRI, resting-state functional MRI and arterial spin labelling.
It said while the new contract does not affect its financial expectations for the current year, it adds to the strong order book.
Alzheimer’s affects around 50mln people worldwide with devastating mental and physical consequences – a figure that is only likely to rise with an ageing population.
“There are currently no means to prevent or delay onset, slow progression or meaningfully improve symptoms of this devastating disease,” said IXICO chief executive, Lammert Albers.
“With more than 120 unique investigational drugs in clinical trials, IXICO is proud to support potential treatments that one day may be in the hands of Alzheimer's patients worldwide."
