Angling Direct appoints Steven Crowe as its chief financial officer

Crowe most recently served as finance director at Marvel NewCo Ltd and Validus Ltd, having held previous positions at FTSE 100 insurer Aviva PLC

Angling Direct PLC (LON:ANG) has appointed Steven Crowe as its chief financial officer with effect from 2 January 2020, replacing interim finance director, Ian Hunter who is leaving the fishing tackle retailer to develop his own consultancy business.

The AIM-listed company noted that chartered accountant Crowe most recently served as finance director at Marvel NewCo Ltd and Validus Ltd, having held previous positions at FTSE 100 insurer Aviva PLC (LON:AV.), where he worked as director of finance for ten years managing business units with £3bn to £4bn in turnover.

Departing finance boss Hunter oversaw the company’s AIM flotation in June 2017, having joined in 2015 after setting up consultancy Hunters Business Services Limited in October 2001, which specialises in finance and business turnarounds.

The group said Hunter will remain with the company to assist with the handover process.

In a statement, Angling Direct’s chief executive, Darren Bailey thanked Hunter for his “significant contribution to the group”, and added that the company looks forward to working with newcomer Crowe to “deliver our multi-channel growth strategy”, saying: “Steve brings a wealth of financial experience gained in the e-commerce and insurance sectors, particularly in the planning and management of M&A and international growth.”
