Oncimmune Holdings PLC (LON:ONC) has welcomed recommendations from an independent review into NHS cancer screening programmes, which has suggested the entire system needs overhauling to aid earlier diagnosis and treatment.
Adam Hill, chief executive of the AIM-listed firm, said the review had made “sensible, practical recommendations” towards making early cancer diagnosis more accessible to patients.

Oncimmune is developing EarlyCDT, a test that can detect lung cancer four years earlier than standard clinical diagnosis using blood samples, and is currently trying roll it out across the UK following a trial among 12,000 high-risk patients in Scotland which showed that more people taking the test were diagnosed with early stages of lung cancer in the subsequent two years than those who received only standard clinical care.
“Our test for lung cancer is easy to perform, quick to analyse and available right now. It has the potential to save lives as part of a targeted screening program as well as significantly reducing costs for the NHS. We look forward to continuing to work with screening experts throughout the UK to roll EarlyCDT Lung out more widely”, Hill said.
In early trading on Thursday, Oncimmune shares were steady at 83p.
