Commencement of human study on its SkinBiotix® technology
NORTHLAND VIEW
SkinBioTherapeutics confirms that it has commenced its human study being carried out on its SkinBiotix® platform, the Company’s proprietary skin-health technology, consisting of extracts taken from beneficial bacteria. There are three elements to this study:
- Study one is a skin irritancy test using different concentrations of SkinBiotix® in a cream formulation. Five different concentrations of the technology will be compared with the base cream formulation containing no SkinBiotix®, as well as an existing marketed dermatological cream. 30 volunteers will be assessed for irritancy at various time points up to 72 hours. The results are expected in October 2018.
- Study two is an evaluation of the moisturisation potential of the SkinBiotix® cream formulation compared to the base formulation. The study is designed to assess 20 volunteers, with a c.12-hour treatment period for each volunteer. The results are expected in October 2018.
- Study three aims to determine whether the positive impact of the SkinBiotix® on the skin's barrier function demonstrated in laboratory studies can be replicated in human volunteers. The study is targeted to enroll 120 female volunteers with self-assessed 'dry skin'. The first 20 volunteers are expected to be treated in November 2018 with the remaining volunteers treated in January 2019. The Company has now received final ethics approval for the commencement of this study. Data on the first 20 volunteers is expected to be available in December 2018 with the full read-out on all 120 volunteers available during Q1 2019.
The studies have commenced on schedule. Positive results from which, would provide additional proof of SkinBiotix® technology's efficacy, permit labelling of the cosmetic application as ‘dermatologically tested’, and enable the Company to continue to pursue commercial discussions with potential partners.
