Legend Mining assays strengthen Rockford South nickel-copper-cobalt potential

Reverse circulation drilling at Worsley is planned to test anomalous geochemistry which will be conducted in conjunction with planned RC drilling at Shackleton.

Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG) has received broad anomalous assays which have strengthened the nickel-copper-cobalt potential of prospects at Rockford South within its broader Rockford project in WA's Fraser Range.

Results from 15 infill aircore drill holes following up anomalous geochemistry in previous Rockford South holes confirmed the previous results along with the presence of two mineralisation styles.

Two prospects targeted in the Rockford South area are now named Crean and Worsley.

Crean is considered a magmatic nickel-copper intrusive related style while Worsley displays characteristics of a copper-zinc-gold VMS system.

Legend managing director Mark Wilson said: “The nickel footprint at Crean is within a major structural trend which runs from Nova in the south past Silver Knight up into Legend’s tenements and on into the north-western area of the Fraser Zone.

“This structural trend is interpreted to contain the deep structures which are fundamental to the formation of the style of deposits we are seeking.

“The new assays from Worsley add an extra dimension to the VMS potential – both infill programs have provided valuable information for future works.”

The Crean prospect lies within an interpreted structural corridor near the western margin of the Fraser Zone and is considered prospective for nickel-copper mineralisation similar to Nova-Bollinger and Silver Knight.

Broad anomalous nickel intervals were returned in two holes at Crean:

  • 28 metres at 0.17% nickel, 0.02% copper and 0.03% cobalt from 16 metres; and
  • 34 metres at 0.19% nickel, 0.01% copper and 0.03% cobalt from 20 metres.

Ten infill aircore drillholes at 50, 100, and 200 metre spacings around a previous hole at Crean were completed to define the extent of the anomalous nickel geochemistry.

Two holes drilled 100 metres and 200 metres south of the previous hole, both returned broad intervals with anomalous nickel associated with the same olivine-rich ultramafic unit.

At Worsley one hole intersected a profile containing 49 metres of ferruginous saprolite before ending at 97 metres in banded mafic granulite with elevated copper-zinc-silver and trace amounts of pyrite.

It returned an intersection of 9 metres at 0.09% copper, 0.06% zinc, and 1.47 g/t silver from 88 metres to the end of the hole.

The results provide further strong evidence for VMS style mineralisation and, along with the associated MLTEM conductor, make Worsley a compelling target.

Wilson added: "Both infill programs have provided valuable information for future works.”

Future programs

Further infill aircore drilling at Worsley to define the extent of the anomalous multi-element geochemistry is planned to assist deep drill hole design.

An MLTEM survey is also planned at Crean to test for conductors associated with the anomalous nickel results and ultramafic host rocks.
