Legend Mining Limited (ASX:LEG) has kicked off its 2019 exploration program at the Rockford project in the Fraser Range of Western Australia as it seeks to build on highly encouraging 2018 results.
Work to date in the highly prospective region in which the Creasy Group followed by Independence Group NL (ASX:IGO) have tasted success has identified nickel-copper and copper-zinc-silver mineralisation.
Aircore drilling and IP survey
The initial 2019 program will incorporate aircore drilling at Rockford South and Area D targets along with a 3D Induced Polarisation (IP) survey at Area D.
Legend also plans to test regional targets within a 25 kilometre radius of Area D with further aircore drilling.

Extending over a 2,621 square kilometre expanse, the JV project is run in partnership with legendary prospector Mark Creasy’s the Creasy Group Pty Ltd, which has a 30% stake with Legend holding 70%.
An exploration team from the Creasy Group is expected to assist with the program.
First target in the aircore program of around 100 holes for about 8,000 metres is Rockford South where drilling will follow-up anomalous results from two holes drilled late last year.
These holes returned two different styles of mineralisation with one showing characteristics of a copper-zinc-silver VMS system and the other is considered a magmatic nickel-copper intrusive related style.
The drilling, which is underway, is aimed at defining the extent of the anomalous geochemical footprint surrounding both holes.
Legend also believes this work will provide further bedrock information associated with the S1 EM conductor coincident with the VMS-style mineralisation.

A 60-hole aircore program will follow at Area D focusing on the up-dip projection of 14 previously identified conductors.
This work is specifically designed to provide geochemical and bedrock lithology information associated with the footwall, top and hangingwall positions of modelled EM conductor plates.
The company aims to identify favourable nickel-copper host rocks with associated anomalous nickel-copper geochemistry.
Diamond drilling planned
Results will be integrated with MLTEM survey results along with those from the upcoming IP survey to assist in prioritising the EM conductors ahead of diamond drilling.
The IP survey over the MLTEM conductors is scheduled to commence later this week.
It will comprise five lines of double offset pole-dipole 3D IP covering an area of about 20 square kilometres.
