Eve Sleep nabs Moonpig boss to correct 'strategic mis-steps'

James Sturrock takes over on September 10 to fill the gap created when former CEO Jas Bagniewski departed

Mattress maker Eve Sleep Plc (LON:EVE) has nabbed its new chief executive from online card and gifts group Moonpig.

James Sturrock takes over on 10 September to fill the gap created in July when then CEO Jas Bagniewski took the can for ‘strategic mis-steps’ and losing focus on the aim to create an 'aspirational sleep brand'.

Sturrock has online-focused consumer experience combined with a strong background in marketing and brand development, said Paul Pindar, eve Sleep's chairman.

At Moonpig, Sturrock was managing director for four years from 2014, a period when it saw double-digit revenue and EBITDA growth.

Prior to Moonpig, James worked for insurer Direct Line.

In another boardroom move, Nikki Crumpton tales over as senior independent non-exec replacing Peter Hepworth who is stepping down.

Crumpton has worked for a number of ad agencies and is the founder of brand and communications consultancy, The Active Strategist.

Shares in eve Sleep have slumped to 16p from 101p when they listed on AIM in May 2017.

Pindar added that the appointments were a major coup for the group.
