The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje, and published by the Bloomsbury Publishing PLC (LON:BMY) has won the prestigious Golden Man Booker Prize.
The Golden Man Booker Prize is a special one-off award to commemorate the Man Booker Prize's 50th anniversary and was awarded to the book deemed to be the best work of fiction from the last five decades of the prize.

Two of the five books nominated for the prize were published by Bloomsbury; the other was Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders.
"Congratulations to Michael Ondaatje - I am absolutely delighted that The English Patient has received this recognition from a public vote,” said Nigel Newton, the chief executive of Bloomsbury.
“Our mission at Bloomsbury is to publish books of excellence and originality and we are thrilled that two of our authors - Michael Ondaatje and George Saunders - were on the shortlist and most of all that Michael won," he added.
Shares in Bloomsbury were up 4.2% at 248p in early deals.
