Verizon Communications shares rise on better than expected revenue

Fourth quarter revenue was ahead of expectations, but adjusted earnings fell short of market consensus

Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) is due to start Tuesday’s trading higher, extending its gains, following the release of better-than-expected revenues.

At US$34bn, the fourth quarter revenue figure was up from US$32.34bn recorded last year, and was above market expectations for US$33.2bn.

Earnings increased to US$18.78bn from US$4.6bn in the same three months in the previous year, though the adjusted earnings per share amounted to 86 US cents, below the expected 88 US cents per share.

In pre-market deals, Verizon stock was 1.05% higher at US$54.02, following Monday’s 3% rise.
