Legend Mining’s shares rise on nickel-copper hits at Rockford Project

The petrological examination of the samples has identified olivine-rich host rocks.

Legend Mining Limited’s (ASX:LEG) shares are trading circa 8% higher intra-day after identifying nickel-copper sulphides from drilling at its Rockford Project in the Fraser Range of Western Australia.

The assay from an aircore drill hole returned 10 metres at 0.09% nickel, 0.10% copper and 0.01% cobalt from 56 metres including 4 metres at 0.13% nickel, 0.16% copper and 0.02% cobalt from 60 metres.

Mark Wilson, managing director, said: “The petrographic identification of an olivine rich gabbronorite with associated anomalous nickel-copper-cobalt is good news for Legend shareholders.

“This is the host rock for the Nova ore body. The anomalous nickel-copper assays from drillhole RKAC167, which is 1.6 kilometres from hole RKAC151, starts to identify the potential scale of this anomalous footprint.”

Olivine-rich host rock identified

Legend has received the petrology from drill hole samples and final assay results for 20 holes from the recent aircore drilling at Area D of its Rockford Project.

The petrological examination of the samples has identified weathered olivine-rich host rocks.

Importantly, olivine-rich rocks are favourable for hosting nickel-copper mineralisation. The significance of the host rock has been further enhanced by the assay results.

The petrology has also identified minor amounts of a variety of copper minerals including chalcocite, digenite, chalcopyrite and thin veinlets of native copper, thus explaining the anomalous copper assays.

Further work is planned to investigate the anomalous nickel-copper-cobalt drill result with regard to whether it is the result of in-situ weathering of sulphides or supergene enrichment.

There are several similar untested magnetic features throughout Area D, interpreted as possible intrusives, and require follow up exploration.
