Gfinity’s Elite Series to be broadcast around the world

The esports group has signed a contract with Eleven Sports which will broadcast the tournament on its TV channels around the world

Gfinity Plc’s (LON:GFIN) recently-launched Elite Series is set to get worldwide exposure after the AIM-quoted firm signed a contract with Eleven Sports to broadcast the esports tournament across its various TV channels.

Eleven reaches into more than 70mln homes, with channels in the US, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Poland and Taiwan.

The broadcaster will show live and on-demand coverage of the competition along with preview and review shows, as well as behind-the-scenes footage and features.

Gfinity said the tie-up was a “unique opportunity” to extend the reach of the Elite Series and will help build long-term commercial potential. It will also introduce fans of traditional sports to esports.

“We are very excited to work with Eleven Sports as they are an excellent partner to deliver top quality broadcasting to the key markets where esports matters the most,” said chief executive Neville Upton.

“Eleven Sports distribute some of the biggest sporting events which makes them a natural fit for all the competitive video game action that the Elite Series has to offer in full HD, globally.”

The Elite Series kicked off earlier this month at the Gfinity Arena in London. It sees eight professional esports teams compete over nine weekends of head-to-head gameplay.

Shares were 2.9% higher at 22.25p in early deals on Friday.
