Frontier IP Group PLC (LSE:FIPP, FRA:8WT) said its portfolio company Cambridge Raman Imaging has secured a €400,000 European grant as it targets pharmaceutical manufacturing quality control and prepares pilot testing with two industry groups.
The non-dilutive European Innovation Council funding will support the scale-up of CRI’s high-speed Raman imaging and artificial intelligence technology. Frontier IP owns 26.81% of the company.
CRI’s system analyses multiple Raman spectra simultaneously, producing a near-real-time chemical picture of materials. The company plans to use the technology on pharmaceutical production lines to verify the composition and active ingredients of tablets, pills and powders.
The business said industrial quality control offered a faster route to scale than medical applications because regulatory barriers are lower.
CRI has also appointed Hooke Instruments, a China-based scientific and medical equipment distributor with more than 100 customers globally, to sell its technology in the Chinese market.
In afternoon trading, the shares were up 5% at 14p.
