4basebio PLC (AIM:4BB, FRA:8L7, ETR:88Q), the synthetic DNA manufacturer, has appointed Jeff Coller, a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of RNA Biology and Therapeutics at Johns Hopkins University, to its Strategic Advisory Board.
Coller, who is also inaugural director of the RNA Innovation Center at Johns Hopkins, brings more than 30 years of mRNA research to the role, with his laboratory credited with discoveries that reshaped scientific understanding of messenger RNA stability and how efficiently genetic instructions are converted into proteins.
4basebio said his expertise would help guide the company's strategy for delivering optimised DNA templates designed to maximise the therapeutic potential of genetic medicines.
The appointment comes as 4basebio scales its synthetic DNA technology across mRNA synthesis, AAV vector manufacturing and gene editing applications, and prepares to move into a new Cambridge manufacturing facility.
Synthetic DNA produced without bacterial plasmids, 4basebio's core offering, is considered a cleaner and more scalable starting material for next-generation therapeutics than conventional methods.
Chief executive Amy Walker said Coller's discoveries in mRNA stability were transformative for the industry and aligned with the company's goal of eliminating bottlenecks in traditional manufacturing.
Coller is co-founder of Tevard Biosciences and a founding board member of the Alliance for mRNA Medicines.
