Lightning Minerals uncovers multi-vein tungsten system - ICYMI

Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M, FRA:YZ1) earlier this week reported assay results confirming widespread high-grade tungsten mineralisation at its 100%-owned Warby Project in North Queensland, strengthening the company's exposure to a critical mineral that is attracting increasing global attention.

The company received assays from 14 reconnaissance rock chip samples collected from historical workings across eight separate vein systems. Results ranged from 750 parts per million tungsten to more than 50,000 parts per million, equivalent to greater than 5% tungsten.

Speaking with Proactive, chief executive Troy Brice said the results represented an important validation of the company's exploration model and provided confidence for the next phase of work.

Brice said the company had been awaiting assay results to confirm the significance of the historical workings identified at Warby. He noted that confirmation of high-grade mineralisation across multiple vein systems provided a strong foundation for further exploration.

A key takeaway from the results is the apparent scale of the mineralised system. Brice said the company had identified eight mineralised veins to date and believed there was evidence of a broader structural system that now warranted detailed investigation.

The next phase of exploration will focus on geological mapping, drainage geochemistry and expanded soil sampling programs. Management intends to define the extent of mineralisation before progressing towards potential drill targets.

Brice told Proactive: "We've got evidence of a broader structural system that we can now work to define."

The Warby Project's location in a recognised tungsten district adds further significance to the discovery. The project is situated relatively close to the Mt Carbine tungsten operation, one of Australia's producing tungsten mines.

The macroeconomic backdrop may also support investor interest. Brice noted that China controls approximately 83% of global tungsten supply, while demand continues to increase from defence, aerospace and advanced manufacturing sectors. Governments and industries seeking secure supply chains are increasingly looking for alternative sources of critical minerals.

While Lightning Minerals remains primarily focused on gold exploration, Brice said the tungsten opportunity provides a complementary critical minerals growth avenue. He indicated that the project can be advanced alongside existing exploration programs, allowing the company to maintain operational efficiency.

Potential catalysts for investors include the completion of planned geochemical surveys, further definition of the vein systems, identification of drill targets and any future drilling campaigns designed to test the broader scale of the mineralised system.

Proactive: Welcome back to Proactive Investors. I'm your host, Kerry Stevenson. Troy Brice, the CEO of Lightning Minerals. We spoke recently about the possibility of tungsten at the Warby Project. The assays have now confirmed very strong high-grade tungsten results. Tell us about today's announcement and why you're so pleased with the results.

Troy Brice: I'm stoked with the results. The team is excited because it adds a really important critical mineral to our portfolio. Today's announcement is about confirmation of what we've found. We received 14 high-grade sample results. Waiting for assays is always a painful period, but when you finally receive the data and it confirms what you hoped, it's very exciting. It gives us clear next steps. As part of the recent capital raise, we have four specific programs planned at Warby.

The nearby Mt Carbine tungsten operation demonstrates the potential of the region. The timing is also significant given the geopolitical environment, China's dominance of global tungsten supply and Australia's opportunity to contribute additional critical mineral supply.

Proactive: You're a relatively small company, but there are strong macro drivers supporting tungsten. Why is tungsten becoming such an important commodity?

Troy Brice: Tungsten is found in relatively limited locations globally, and China controls around 83% of supply. The US defence sector is actively seeking alternative tungsten sources. Demand is also growing from aerospace and electrification applications, including batteries and other technologies.

Our research into historical workings at Warby suggests activity dating back to World War I, when material may have contributed to early weapons manufacturing. The historical workings have provided valuable exploration targets.

The main drivers today are defence, aerospace and constrained supply.

Proactive: These assay results are encouraging, but it's still early days. What are the next steps to create value for shareholders?

Troy Brice: It is early days. We need to explore intelligently and conserve cash. We're not rushing into drilling. The recent capital raise provides funding for several exploration activities.

We'll undertake infill and drainage geochemistry work, expand soil geochemistry programs across approximately two square kilometres and investigate the multiple vein structures. So far we've identified eight veins carrying tungsten mineralisation, with results exceeding 50,000 ppm tungsten.

The exciting part is that we have evidence of a broader structural system. The objective now is to define that system properly. Drilling is likely a future step, potentially in 2027 rather than this year.

Proactive: Given the proximity to the Mt Carbine operation, do you draw any information or insights from that project?

Troy Brice: At this stage we're focused on our own work and understanding exactly what we have at Warby. In the future there may be opportunities to engage with the operators there, but first we need to define the scale and extent of our own mineralisation. It's encouraging to have a successful tungsten producer nearby.

Proactive: Do these tungsten results change your broader exploration strategy?

Troy Brice: It's a good question. We're still fundamentally a gold-focused exploration company, with copper providing medium-term upside. Tungsten is an exciting bonus and an important critical mineral opportunity. Because of its location near our existing operational hub, it can be advanced alongside our other activities, making our exploration programs more efficient and cost-effective.

Proactive: What should investors expect next?

Troy Brice: We'll get field crews back on site to undertake geological mapping, drainage geochemistry and soil sampling. The focus is on defining the system, understanding what we've got and making informed decisions based on the data.

Proactive: Congratulations on the results. I look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Troy Brice: Thank you, Kerry.
