Remplir expected to avoid proposed US pharmaceutical tariffs

Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC, OTC:ORHHF)'s flagship Remplir™ product is not expected to be caught by proposed US tariffs on certain pharmaceutical imports, following an announcement by the US Administration on April 2, 2026.

The regenerative medicine company said an initial review indicated Remplir, as a medical device rather than a pharmaceutical product, should sit outside the scope of the proposed measures under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.

The distinction supported its position in the US market and allowed it to continue the commercial rollout of Remplir without disruption.

The company said it already had about 4,000 units of Remplir in-market in the United States and none were affected by the proposed tariff measures.

The proposed policy settings were directed at pharmaceutical pricing frameworks, which Orthocell believes do not apply to Remplir as a medical device.

On that basis, the company said it remained well placed relative to pharmaceutical-based products and did not expect any financial impact on its US growth strategy.

Orthocell’s US rollout starts to show commercial traction

Orthocell is beginning to generate tangible commercial momentum in the United States as its long-awaited shift from development to sales starts to take shape.

After years of product development, regulatory progress and early offshore sales, the company is establishing a presence for its Remplir nerve repair device in what is both its biggest commercial opportunity and its most competitive market.

Early signs from the rollout, including uptake across hospitals, surgeon adoption and repeat usage, point to growing traction for the product as Orthocell builds out its US market position.

The company’s path to profitability is also seen as relatively modest compared with the scale of the addressable market, highlighting the potential leverage in its commercial model.

That dynamic is drawing attention to a segment of surgery that remains high-volume but underpenetrated by advanced devices, where even small changes in clinical practice can translate into meaningful revenue growth.

Remplir used in 23 procedures on injured Ukrainian soldiers

Orthocell also recently confirmed its Remplir™ nerve repair device has been used in 23 surgical procedures on Ukrainian soldiers in combat, providing a real-world demonstration of the technology in frontline trauma settings.

The company said the update follows a humanitarian shipment of Remplir to Ukraine in April 2025, with confirmation now received that local surgeons have successfully deployed the device.

According to Orthocell, Remplir has been used across both primary and secondary nerve repair procedures, highlighting its versatility in treating complex nerve injuries sustained on the battlefield.
