Recce expands patent footprint with Brazil grant for anti-infectives platform

Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:RCE, OTC:RECEF) has secured a key intellectual property milestone in South America, with Brazil granting a Family 4 patent covering its synthetic anti-infectives platform, extending protection through to 2041.

The patent, awarded by Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property, covers Recce’s lead compounds RECCE® 327 (R327) and RECCE® 529 (R529), including their manufacturing processes, therapeutic use and multiple delivery methods.

The approval marks Recce’s seventh granted patent in the Family 4 portfolio, adding Brazil to existing jurisdictions including Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Israel and Japan.

Broad protection across infections and delivery methods

The Brazilian patent provides coverage across a wide range of infectious disease applications, reinforcing the versatility of Recce’s platform.

It includes use of R327 and R529 in treating bacterial and viral infections, spanning indications such as acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), diabetic foot infections, burn wounds, lung infections, urinary tract infections and viral diseases including influenza and SARS-CoV-2.

The claims also extend to multiple delivery formats — including oral, inhalation, transdermal and injectable routes — as well as topical applications such as gels, foams and dressings.

Strategic entry into major antibiotics market

The patent strengthens Recce’s position in one of the world’s largest antibiotic markets. Brazil’s antibiotics sector generated revenue of about US$774.5 million in 2024 and is projected to grow to roughly US$964.3 million by 2033.

Chief executive officer James Graham said the grant highlighted the importance of intellectual property as the company advances its anti-infective platform.

“We thank the Brazilian National Institute of Industrial Property for their recognition of Recce’s platform technology,” Graham said.

“Patent protection is fundamental to Recce, and we are encouraged by the expansion of our patent portfolio into Brazil, South America’s largest antibiotic market,” he added. “As we look to address the urgent and growing global burden of antibiotic-resistant superbugs, this granted patent is yet another intellectual property milestone.”

Supporting clinical and commercial progress

The latest patent builds on Recce’s ongoing expansion of its global intellectual property footprint. In November, the company secured a Family 4 patent grant in Hong Kong, covering the same RECCE® 327 and RECCE® 529 compounds and reinforcing its position across key Asian markets.

Alongside continued clinical progress — including its phase 3 diabetic foot infection trial and US Army-backed work on its RECCE® 327 burn gel — the Brazilian approval further extends protection across major commercial regions.

Recce’s pipeline includes three core candidates: R327 for serious bacterial infections, R435 as an oral therapy, and R529 targeting viral infections. The company’s synthetic polymer approach is designed to overcome resistance mechanisms that limit traditional antibiotics.

The Brazilian patent adds further protection as Recce continues to scale its intellectual property portfolio globally, with additional Patent Cooperation Treaty applications progressing through review.
