Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) shares fell as much as 10% after the company released mixed fourth quarter earnings and outlined plans to invest approximately $200 billion in capital expenditures in 2026, focusing on areas including artificial intelligence, chips, robotics, and low-earth orbit satellites.

This is up from approximately $125 billion in 2025.

Rio Tinto Ltd (LSE:RIO, ASX:RIO, OTC:RTNTF) and Glencore PLC (LSE:GLEN) said on Thursday they have ended merger discussions after failing to agree on terms, marking the collapse of what could have been one of the mining sector’s most high-profile deals.

Rio Tinto said it is no longer considering a merger with Glencore, citing an inability to reach a deal it believes would deliver value to shareholders.

Gemini (NASDAQ:GEMI), the cryptocurrency exchange founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, announced a new round of layoffs and a strategic refocus on its home market.

For its fiscal second quarter ended December 31, 2025, Peloton reported a loss of $0.09 per share, compared with Wall Street expectations for a loss of $0.06 per share.

Shell PLC shares were relatively steady, down 0.85% at 2,843.5p, after the oil major missed earnings expectations for the fourth quarter but held the line on shareholder payouts, announcing a fresh $3.5 billion buyback and a 4% dividend increase.

Adjusted earnings fell short of forecasts at $3.3 billion, around 7% below consensus. Operating cash flow before working capital was also weaker than expected at $8.2 billion.

This was not a classic earnings disappointment. Qualcomm Inc (NASDAQ:QCOM, XETRA:QCI) exceeded consensus forecasts on both revenue and adjusted earnings per share. Instead, the market focused almost entirely on guidance, which pointed to a materially weaker upcoming quarter.
