Hims & Hers launches compounded semaglutide pill as lower-cost weight loss option

Hims & Hers (NYSE:HIMS) has announced the launch of a compounded semaglutide pill designed for weight loss, providing an alternative to Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO)’s Wegovy.

The oral treatment uses the same active ingredient as Wegovy but is formulated to improve digestion and absorption, eliminating the need for injections.

The company is offering the new pill at $49 for the first month for qualifying new customers on a five-month plan, followed by $99 monthly. This compares with Wegovy’s typical cost of $149 for a comparable dose.

Hims & Hers said the goal is to make personalized weight-loss care more accessible through its telehealth platform.

"We have spent years building the infrastructure required to put the power of choice back into the hands of the individual, and we are committed to ensuring providers can always make the best clinical decision for their patients with an array of safe options to help find care that fits their lifestyle,” Hims & Hers CEO Andrew Dudum said in a statement.

"We’re excited to find ways to continue bringing branded treatments to the platform across specialties. More choice on the platform is the best thing for customers everywhere.”

Hims & Hers previously partnered with Novo Nordisk in April 2025 to offer discounted Wegovy as part of a bundled program. That partnership ended in June 2025, with Novo Nordisk citing concerns over Hims’ compounded versions of semaglutide and marketing practices. Despite this, Hims & Hers has continued to expand its portfolio of telehealth-based weight-loss solutions.

The company stated that its compounded pill is formulated to protect the active ingredient during digestion and to support absorption, allowing providers to tailor treatments for patients who prefer oral medications or who may be sensitive to side effects from injections.

Hims & Hers emphasized that all active pharmaceutical ingredients in its compounded treatments are sourced from FDA-registered facilities and that the platform adheres to federal and state regulations for compounding. The company also noted that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and should be prescribed as part of a broader treatment plan under provider supervision.

Shares of Hims & Hers were little changed on the news, adding 0.6% at about $24, while Novo Nordisk shares fell 6.5% to about $44.
