Critical Resources grows Ontario lithium platform with major Mavis Lake expansion

Critical Resources Ltd (ASX:CRR) has further strengthened its lithium footprint in north-western Ontario, staking 438 new claim cells that expand its Mavis Lake Lithium Project by about 80 square kilometres to more than 400 square kilometres in total.

The company seized what it called a counter-cyclical opportunity to secure recently vacated, highly prospective ground within the Eagle–Wabigoon–Manitou Greenstone Belt — a proven metallogenic province that hosts multiple lithium-bearing pegmatite fields as well as gold and polymetallic systems.

Managing director Tim Wither said the move consolidates Mavis Lake’s position as one of Ontario’s key lithium assets with built-in advantages.

“The countercyclical opportunity to stake these additional claims secures a dominant land position over highly prospective geology,” Wither said. “The strategic decision secures future growth resource potential across the Mavis Lake Lithium Project.

“For shareholders, Mavis Lake stands as one of Ontario’s significant lithium assets, with scale potential, grade, and access to world-class transport and power utility infrastructure, positioning Mavis Lake to play a key role in North America’s lithium supply chain.”

Strengthened exploration corridor

The newly staked tenements extend key structural corridors within Mavis Lake that are considered favourable for spodumene-bearing pegmatites and orogenic gold systems similar to those already identified across the existing project area.

Historical mapping and regional geophysical datasets point to extensive fault-bounded volcanic–sedimentary packages — many yet to see modern exploration — highlighting the project’s potential for new discoveries.

Cost-effective, long-term growth

Critical Resources said the ground was acquired through direct staking, the most cost-effective means of expansion, bringing the additional 8,000 hectares at minimal cost.

The company’s prior investment — more than 58,000 metres of drilling plus metallurgical, geophysical and baseline work — provides sufficient assessment credits to keep the enlarged landholding in good standing for several years. That ensures low ongoing expenditure and allows focus on “value-adding activities” ahead of the next lithium-market up-cycle.

Broader critical-minerals platform

Mavis Lake anchors Critical Resources’ multi-commodity portfolio spanning Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The Ontario project already hosts a maiden inferred resource of 8 million tonnes at 1.07% lithium oxide (Li₂O), while in Australia the company is advancing the Halls Peak base-metals project (884,000 tonnes at 3.7% zinc, 1.5% lead, 0.4% copper, 30 g/t silver and 0.1 g/t gold) and nearby gold-antimony prospects at Mayview and Amoco.

Further south, its New Zealand projects in Otago provide additional gold-antimony exposure.

The Mavis Lake expansion, Wither said, “increases Critical Resources’ exploration potential without significant expenditure” and positions the company to benefit from both the recovery in lithium markets and renewed investor interest in multi-commodity assets.
