Critical Resources appoints experienced mining executive Tim Wither as managing director

Critical Resources Ltd (ASX:CRR) has expanded CEO Tim Wither’s role to include managing director responsibilities, effective immediately, as the company moves to strengthen leadership across its expanding portfolio of lithium, gold, and antimony projects in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Wither brings more than 20 years of experience across the global resources sector, having held senior roles in Australia, India, Africa, and South America, including with both ASX- and TSX-listed companies.

Before joining Critical Resources, he served as managing director of Maximus Resources (ASX:MXR), overseeing a period of strategic expansion that included a US$3 million lithium joint venture with the Korean government agency KOMIR and a memorandum of understanding with LG Energy Solution. Maximus was later acquired by Astral Resources NL (ASX:AAR) in a $31 million off-market takeover, delivering a 67% premium to shareholders.

Board welcomes leadership

Critical Resources non-executive chairman Bilal Ahmad said Wither’s leadership had already made a strong impact since his appointment as CEO earlier this year.

“Tim brings terrific energy, a steady hand and valuable operational experience to the company,” Ahmad said.

“Tim has played a key role in advancing the company’s growth strategies, including diversifying our project portfolio through the establishment of a New Zealand exploration portfolio focused on high-grade gold and antimony prospects in the Otago Region, completing the maiden drilling program at the prospective Amoco Gold-Antimony Project in New South Wales, and consolidating our tenement position at the Mavis Lake Lithium Project in Ontario.”

Ahmad said these initiatives had strengthened Critical Resources’ exposure to key critical minerals, positioning the company for “continued growth across tier-one jurisdictions”.

Strategic focus and remuneration terms

Under his new appointment, Wither’s employment terms remain unchanged from those announced in May 2025. The company has, however, approved an additional incentive package comprising 30 million unlisted options — exercisable at strike prices of $0.02, $0.03 and $0.04 — each with a three-year expiry and subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.

Expanding portfolio across critical commodities

Critical Resources is advancing a diversified portfolio of battery and precious metal projects across three jurisdictions:

  • Mavis Lake Lithium Project (Ontario, Canada) — Maiden inferred resource of 8 million tonnes at 1.07% Li₂O, with strong growth potential.
  • Halls Peak Project (New South Wales) — Inferred resource of 884,000 tonnes at 3.7% zinc, 1.5% lead, 0.4% copper, 30 g/t silver, and 0.1 g/t gold.
  • Otago Region (New Zealand) — Newly established portfolio targeting high-grade gold and antimony prospects.

Ahmad said the board looks forward to working closely with Wither “as we execute on our strategy and deliver long-term value for shareholders.”
