Recent supermarket industry data suggested that Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO) could be on course to upgrade its full-year guidance, as its market share rose.
Sales of many food products have risen in recent weeks, led by continued grocery inflation, with the rate of 5.1% in August the highest since January 2024.

The last time we heard from JD Wetherspoon PLC (LSE:JDW) was unusual, in that chairman Tim Martin had little to complain about, with shares bubbling to a year's high as the pub group enjoyed favourable summer weather.
Martin said this trading in its fourth quarter meant that profits were likely to be in line with market expectations, notwithstanding the high tax and labour increases for the hospitality industry.
With the Budget coming up, he might be ready to let loose on government policy again.
