Far East Gold Ltd (ASX:FEG) has substantially expanded the exploration scope of its Idenburg Project in Indonesia, identifying 14 new high-priority targets following a structural assessment by Murphy Geological Services. The work takes the total number of defined prospects across the 95,280-hectare tenement to 29.
The new areas were outlined using high-resolution Sentinel-2 satellite imagery interpreted at scales of 1:10,000 to 1:20,000, providing a district-scale structural framework and highlighting zones with strong potential for discovery.
New exploration footprint
The study doubled the number of target areas now under review, adding to the 15 prospects previously recognised. Clear ranking has been established across the portfolio, with 11 designated Priority 1, eight Priority 2, and 10 Priority 3.

The work identified a number of Priority 1 and 2 structural targets for follow-up detailed mapping and drill target definition. The location of the Bermol prospect area and site of current company drilling is indicated as is the extent of the interpreted structural corridor which include the North (and South) Bermol prospect areas.
Among the high-ranking prospects is North Bermol, which has already delivered high-grade gold hits in recent drilling. Far East Gold reported last week that assays from the area confirmed mineralisation along strike and at depth, reinforcing its classification as a key priority.

Chief executive officer Shane Menere said the expanded target list represents a major step forward as the company looks to unlock the Idenburg district’s potential.
“What makes this particularly exciting is that the original exploration target range was based on just 15 known prospects,” Menere said.
“With the addition of 14 new target areas from this structural evaluation, we have significantly expanded the scope for discovery,” he added. “This positions Idenburg as one of the most compelling exploration opportunities in the region, with substantial upside as we move forward with systematic follow-up and drilling.”
Regional significance
Idenburg sits within a globally significant mining corridor that hosts Tier-1 deposits such as Grasberg, with more than 70 million ounces (Moz) gold), as well as Porgera (+7 Moz), Frieda River (20 Moz) and Ok Tedi (20 Moz). Far East Gold believes the structural similarities and scale of its holdings provide a district-wide opportunity.

An independent assessment last year estimated a conceptual exploration target for Idenburg ranging between 189,000 ounces at 1.0 g/t gold and 7.2 million ounces at 6.1 g/t gold across earlier-defined prospects. While the figures are not JORC-compliant mineral resources, they demonstrate the scale of potential as systematic drilling progresses.
Next steps
The company plans to undertake ground-based work across the highest-priority targets, with the objective of defining near-term drill programs.
Far East Gold continues to advance a pipeline of six projects across Australia and Indonesia, with the recent results from North Bermol and early drilling at Idenburg providing momentum as it works to unlock the broader potential of the district.
