Mining major Rio Tinto Ltd (LSE:RIO, ASX:RIO, OTC:RTNTF) will invest US$180 million in the development of the Norman Creek access project at its Amrun bauxite operation on Queensland’s Cape York Peninsula.
The project will unlock access to the Norman Creek region, which accounts for roughly half of Amrun’s currently declared ore reserves of 978 million tonnes. Key infrastructure works are already underway, including the construction of a 19-kilometre haul road, camp accommodation and a communications tower. First production is targeted for 2027, with full construction completion expected in 2028.

NextSource Materials Inc. (TSX:NEXT, OTCQB:NSRCF) has signed a binding multi-year offtake agreement with Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) to supply graphite-based anode material for electric vehicle (EV) batteries destined for the North American market.
Under the deal, NextSource will produce intermediate anode active material (AAM) using graphite from its Molo mine in Madagascar and ship it to MCC’s plant in Japan. MCC will then process the material into finished AAM for use by a major automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in North America.

Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LSE:FRES) jumped 8% on Tuesday after the precious metals group lifted its gold production forecast for the year, following a strong first half marked by improved profitability and robust free cash flow.
For the six months to 30 June, Fresnillo reported a 16% rise in gold output to 314,000 ounces, driven by operational improvements at the Herradura mine.
