GSK, Kingfisher, Direct Line: What brokers said today

NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) is expected to once again deliver upside against high expectations when the chipmaker posts its latest earnings report after the stock market closes on Wednesday.

For the quarter ended July 28, Wall Street analysts expect revenue to surge more than 110% year-over-year to $28.4 billion, in line with Nvidia’s guidance at the midpoint of $28 billion.

Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LSE:DLG) has been upgraded to a buy by US group Citi with the target price being raised to 223p irrespective of the motor insurance pricing cycle.

Shares are down 12% since the end of May but Citi sees the underlying motor trends as favourable with UK Motor claims improving, but the US bank sees a big contribution from non-motor.

In 2021, global insurance giant Prudential plc made a bet-the-farm decision to ditch its US and European operations to focus on the emerging middle classes of the Asian continent.

Today’s interim results, though they had their bright spots, suggest that Prudential’s big bet “isn’t playing out as the company would have hoped”, per AJ Bell’s investment director Russ Mould’s analysis.

GSK PLC (LSE:GSK, NYSE:GSK) shares opened higher after Delaware's Supreme Court said it will hear an appeal by the UK drug market and other pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer, Sanofi, and Boehringer Ingelheim, to dismiss over 70,000 lawsuits alleging that the discontinued heartburn drug Zantac causes cancer.

The companies argue that the scientific methods used by plaintiffs to link Zantac to cancer are unsound.
