Shell is among a host of blue chip companies set to report over the coming week, as an interest rate meeting in the US is also keenly awaited by markets.
Banks HSBC and Santander report on Tuesday, after several lenders have unveiled scaled-back interest rate margins this week, while Premier Inn owner Whitbread will also feature.
On Wednesday, Next will provide investors with a further update on Britain’s retail sector, while GSK, Haleon and Smith and Nephew also report.
No change to US interest rates are expected yet when Federal Reserve policymakers meet on Wednesday, though any insight as inflation continues to grow alongside the economy, albeit at a slower rate in the first quarter, will spark interest... Read the macro preview
Shell’s first quarter update then comes on Thursday, after threats of its departure from the London Stock Exchange have hit headlines recently, before Trainline, Intercontinental Hotels Group and Mondi report on Friday.
Back in the US, updates from heavyweights Amazon and Apple will continue the run of big tech earnings into next week.
