Spectral AI Inc (NASDAQ:MDAI), the medical technology company, appointed its founder and former boss Michael DiMaio as a non-executive director last week, replacing the position left by Michael Murphy.
DiMaio served as the company’s chief executive officer and chairman between 2011 and 2020, with all disputes surrounding his exit having been “amicably resolved”.
At the Baylor Scott & White-The Heart Hospitals, the cardiac and thoracic surgeon works as chief of staff and is a board-certified surgeon, working on one of the busiest cardiovascular programmes in the US.
Richard Cotton, chairman of Spectral AI said: "Dr. DiMaio’s deep knowledge and application of innovative medical device technologies, decades of direct patient care, and experiences within some of the United States’ preeminent medical systems and current leadership make him uniquely qualified to support the planned commercialization and ongoing development of our DeepView System.”
During his career, the former CEO has also been the chief investigator for medical trials for drugs and devices which have subsequently been approved by the FDA and commercialized.
Currently, he oversees around 120 clinical trials at his hospital and serves as chairman of the Cardiovascular Research Review Committee.
"I have spent a great deal of my career developing technologies that improve patient outcomes while delivering tangible value across the healthcare spectrum,” said DiMaio.
“I am very pleased to be in a position to help advance this exciting technology towards commercialization of current and future indication developments.”
Additionally, DiMario and Erich Spangenberg, who together hold around 45% of the company’s shares have agreed to a six-month extension of the lock-up of their stakes.
