Hydrogen Future teams up with University of Bristol to accelerate development, grant funding opportunities

Hydrogen Future Industries PLC (AQSE:HFI) has signed an agreement with the University of Bristol to tap into its leading research into hydrogen-related technologies.

In particular, academics at the university have identified HFI’s electrolysis and turbine technology as offering “clear and immediate synergies” with its Hydrogen Depleted Uranium Storage (HyDUS) project.

HyDUS, the university's collaborative project working with EDF UK as the lead partner along with Urenco and the UK Atomic Energy Authority, is designed to be a large-scale storage system to help balance fluctuations in the supply of renewable energy to help decarbonise the national grid as well as produce hydrogen for transport and mobility.

The university has identified several sites for pilot or demonstrator plants using HFI's green hydrogen production system, including potentially land owned by the university.

Tim Blake, chief executive of HFI Energy Systems, said the university has “a world-class team with world-class facilities” to accelerate the development of HFI's system, especially its Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolyser.

“Our electrolyser has demonstrated exceptional efficiency in testing to date and the technology has been identified by UoB as a perfect fit for their HyDUS project. Having access to sites in the UK to develop and demonstrate the complete green hydrogen system, from generation to utilisation, is very important to both parties."

Professor Tom Scott at the university said the HFI green hydrogen production system “could fundamentally change the energy landscape as we know it”.

“It also has clear and immediate synergies with our HyDUS project and other technologies we are actively developing. By collaborating with HFI, we hope to share human, intellectual and equipment resources whilst also fast-tracking grant and other joint funding opportunities."
