Hydrogen Future Industries installs 'game changing' prototype wind turbine

Hydrogen Future Industries PLC (AQSE:HFI) told investors it has completed and installed its latest wind turbine prototype in Montana and data gathering is now underway.

It is the third prototype to be deployed for testing, following patent acquisitions by the company last year.

The prototype is a precursor to a larger diameter commercial scale version.

According to the company, data indications to date are “supportive of the system's capacity to produce low-cost renewable energy and therefore affordable green hydrogen”.

Timothy Blake, HFI’s chief executive for energy systems, described the prototype as “potentially game changing”.

"We are delighted with the progress of prototype testing in Montana with limited initial data corroborating wind tunnel results. Historical wind tunnel data demonstrated a 357% increase in energy generation compared to open rotor wind turbines of the same diameter,” Blake said in a statement.

“This would put us on course to meet our goal of producing green hydrogen for under $2 per kilogram.”

Separately, the company is also advancing concept testing for an electrolyser technology, with ongoing testing taking place currently in California.

The project seeks to develop an anion exchange membrane water electrolyser (AEMWE) that doesn’t use platinum group metal catalysts and instead uses cheaper and more readily available materials, in turn improving power efficiency and longevity.

Test cells evaluated to date have shown exceptional efficiency of up to 97%, the company noted, and test results are expected in the coming weeks ahead of a patent application exercise as a prelude to further development.

On the electrolyser, the HFI executive added: “Dr Nicholas Blake is making excellent progress on the concept testing of a critical component of the hydrogen production system: a novel electrolyser that aims to improve power efficiency and longevity while achieving a significant cost reduction.

"The efficiency recorded from initial testing has been impressive and we look forward to developing and optimising this exciting IP."
