OpenAI is reportedly in “intense talks” with staff in a bid to ease tensions after the untimely sacking of chief executive Sam Altman last Friday.
Given Altman’s booting was met with outrage from staff, many of whom threatened to quit unless he was reappointed, the talks are said to be looking to calm nerves at the ChatGPT maker.
According to a memo cited by Bloomberg, OpenAI’s head of global affairs, Anna Makanju, has told staff that the company is looking at “mutually acceptable” options with Altman.
Altman himself has already been offered a position heading up Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s AI team, though a potential swift return to OpenAI means such plans are up in the air.
OpenAI’s staff have had their own offers of jobs elsewhere meanwhile, with Salesforce chief executive Marc Benioff taking to social media in a bid to entice disgruntled staff to his own company.
Whether any accept the roles remains to be seen, alongside Altman’s own fate at OpenAI, with Friday’s sacking coming as a surprise as the company's board pointed to a loss of confidence in their chief executive.
